Ryan,
  Did you say the Prius solar panels are 2 to 5 Kilowatts?  am I missing something here?  The collection of solar panels on my house are 3 Kilowatts and way too big to put on a car.

"The Nikkei reports that Toyota Motor Corp plans to install solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on the roof of the next-generation Prius to supply part of the 2-5 kW needed to power vehicle auxiliaries, such as the air conditioning system."

The vehicle requires 2-5 KW to run the electrical system.  The solar panels might only be 0.2KW.

These web based news sites seem to get the details wrong.

Well, I think electric vehicles really are made to lessen the spread of pollution just like what toyota is doing right now. They really are modifying toyota parts in order for them to have an energy efficient and close to pollution free electric vehicle.
