Regarding solar on your car rooftop. Assume you put panels on a car that will give you 40 miles of range a day. Yes this will require extremely efficient panels (40%+) and extremely efficient car (120 whr/mile). Say on average you use your car 20 miles a day, but have a 300 mile range ultracap storage bank. Your cars storage is empty, but everyday your car increases 20 miles in capacity since you only use your car 20 mles a day. You will have a 300 mile full tank after 15 days. You decide to drive to Las Vegas. You get there, and park it on the roof. After a few days you drive it home. You own a 3 of these cars. Your 40 mile a day range triples to 120 miles, since you own 3 cars each making 40 miles a day. You can drive one to work leave it there and drive the other one home.

If it's stormy and overcast you might need 4 cars.
Just wanted to add: If it is cloudy you could always recharge in the garage. Your main car might still be recharged every night in the garage. A blow dryer uses a lot of electricity like 1500 watts. That is like a 2 hp electric motor.
I can't decide if BillBerggren is joking or serious in his comments. It seems to "over the top."
