Hey everyone!
Ryan here, hijacking Bo's blog. Well, as you all know, Bo is in Italy, and I've been staying at the Bennett residence. Walking by the Vectrix in the garage every day to drive my old gas powered Honda Accord provided just too much temptation. Today I succumbed, and took the Vectrix for a spin. First let me tell you, this was my first time riding any kind of two-wheeled vehicle w/ more power than a bicycle. I have to say the Vectrix does have some pretty decent pick-up (especially compared to my bicycle).
Well, it was a fun 30 minutes. Until the neighbors called the cops. Apparently, 62 in a 20 was not looked too kindly upon. Oh well, they'll get over it. I'm out of here in another month anyway.
Thanks for the EV grin, Bo! But why didn't you tell me you need a motorcycle license to ride that thing? I left the ticket on your desk-- it doesn't need to be paid until after you're back anyway.

 | EV's in Italy!posted by Bo Bennett, Group AdministratorWednesday, July 1st 2009 @ 1:02 PM |
I have been in Italy for about 1 month now (half way into my 8 week trip) and I have seen several EVs in the cities. Being in these cities where the roads are about as wide as a New York sidewalk, I see more potential for EV adoption here than anywhere, especially since I have only seen like two gas stations so far.
There seem to be a few Italian companies producing city EVs. Here is one I have seen most on the road: http://www.maranello4cycle.com/ . Due to Europe's "quadricycle" law, there are more on the roads here than in US where these cars really would be dangerous. However in these Italian cities, I would say more than 50% of vehicles on the roads are scooters, and SUVs are almost not existent.
Well, off to dinner! The food is awesome here!
