Sebastian Blanco I think meant Lockheed not Boeing. Just a brain twist. It is secretive project so he knows as much as us. I think "the air car" has a lot of potential too.

As a Prius owner, I would like to comment on the speed where the gas motor kicks in.
I have often heard that a Prius stays in all electric mode below 25mph or 35mph or some number. In reality that is non-sense.
The turning on of the gas engine depends on many factors, but I don't think speed is one of them. If you are accelerating, or going uphill, the engine turns on at any speed. On the other hand, if you are going even slightly downhill on a highway (say 55mph) the engine will shut off. Additionally, if the batteries need charging, the gas engine turns on to charge them no matter what speed (including stopped).

Right, this is another link that gives a certain speed that the gas engine turns on. I don't know how these things get written. Anyone with a Prius (and there is something like 800,000 of them) can easily check and see that it is not true.
Toyota turns on the gas motor when they need extra torque or need to charge the batteries. As far as I can tell, it has nothing to do with speed.

250 MPG for PHEV versus 50 MPG for HEV.
Firstly, the 250 MPG does not seem to be the right number.

This link shows a high number of 160.3MPG for a 20 mile trip or as low as 86.1 MPG for a 40 mile trip with a different test method.
Secondly, the 250 MPG vs 50 MPG does not answer the question about the dirtiness of the electricity. That additional MPG is only made possible because the car is using KWH/mile and those KWHs are dirty.
For me, the real argument here is that EV (PHEV) have the potential to be clean. It allows the decoupling of power production from power usage. An EV itself is clean, even if the electricity production is not. We can tackle the cleanliness of the electricity production as a separate issue.
My solar panels on my house produce 10KWH/day of clean electricity. These could be used to propel my EV (PHEV).
Hi there..It was nice to read your blog..anyways, just would like to comment on the Toyota FCHV-adv. I read some reviews and it was listed there that the angle of this car is weak. I hope it is not true. any ideas?
