Good show (although I did miss Ryan;-)  I especially enjoy your shows when you do interviews- each seems to bring to light a different piece of the puzzle as we try to make sense of what our (hopefully!) coming EV world is going to look like, and how it is going to get here.  Coulomb Technologies is especially interesting.  When I first saw the article on them a few weeks back, I almost dismissed it out of hand- but as I thought about it since then, I realized there is going to be a real need for their product.  It reminded me of one of your earlier shows where y'all speculated on indirect investment opportunities for an EV business world- and these guys are doing just that!  Hopefully, one of the side benefits of this company will be the adoption of some nation-wide standards for the new 're-fueling' stations and car connections.  I wonder if the IEEE is involved with this type of development?

Althought late, seems eventually utilities will try and stick it to EV owners by charging them a $0.34 peak hour rate.  That is why remote net metering would be nice, where possibly a coop could be formed where you could buy pv power in a sunny state to offset these high prices permanently.

Great idea for a company.

For the new generation of EV's and PHEV's coming in 2009 and later there is a new standard charging interface which has been defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) 1772 committee. It provides charging from 110 Volts, 15 Amps up to 240 Volts, 80 Amps.

Coulomb operates the ChargePoint Network which will offer access to lower cost energy through time-of-day access. For example drivers can say that they only want off-peak energy and then their costs will be dramatically lower. In a typical utility that can make the difference between energy costs of 9 cents per kilowatt-hour versus 31 cents.
