Shocker-- Three employees of Tesla Motors were killed in a plane crash in Palo Alto-- Doug Bourn, a senior electrical engineer was the pilot; Brian Finn and Ingram were passengers. I hope this does not have any long-lasting effects on the operation of the company.
Ironically, had they been flying an electric plane-- they are just now starting to enter the market, such as the Pipistrel and the Sonex-- perhaps one or more of them would have survived the crash, since electric batteries such as lithium iron phosphate, and Altair's Nanotitanate, would not have burned and would possibly have made the crash more survivable.
JB Straubel was supposed to be at an event next week in Palm Springs, but I doubt he'll be there now.
The Tesla website has a brief obit on the three men, but little else-- I hope this does not affect such ongoing efforts such as the search for an assembly plant somewhere here in the Los Angeles area, or the sale of the Model S which is scheduled for later this year.
I imagine they are in a state of shock at the home offices now, but it's a good sign that they posted the details on their website as soon as they did.
