http://bgelectriccars.com/ BG Automotive Group On your 2009 show you forgot this company. They were right on schedule with their NEV. Also, I like this guys opinion on the corrupt GM bailout. There is a lot of hits on Goolge that mimic this compnay so you can throw that on conspiracy alert. Also I think you forgot to mention Miles.

Tesla 'add ons' oh no!! I think you are wise to take a couple of days to let it simmer and think about it. First, it is not unusual for any car company to charge extra (and usually a lot extra;-) for the upgrades- though some seem out of line, especially the 220w charger. It would be interesting to see if the first 100 owners had these new extras as standard or if they too paid more for them. But, it is a new company, and you are paying extra for being an early adopter.
But I would definitely say NO to the battery insurance.
And poor Phoenix! They finally get their battery technology sorted, and seem to finally be moving forward with some impending fleet sales- and now the maker of their glider may be going bankrupt! This does echo Detroit some, and the wide-ranging impact the failure of the Big Three would have on other parts and car companies that rely on their goods.
Bo, At 110k+ plus there should be no requirements for options. Any option availiable should be included. This seems like a risky move by Telsa-- making the people who have initially supported them shell even more. Even if money is no object the principle of this leaves a bad taste.

Tesla's attempt to weasel more money out of their customers seems like very bad behavior. It is enough to make you want to do business with someone else. They are acting sleazy.
On a much smaller scale, I saw bad corporate behavior at Staples (office supply store). A few days ago, I went into the store to buy some Jumbo Paper clips and their business people had a plan to screw me out of my money.
They should have had
US$1.39 100 paper clips (available from their website)
But they decided not to carry that package to "encourage" me to spend more. Here were the choices.
US$3.99 100 gold paper clips US$7.29 500 paper clips US$7.99 1000 paper clips
This is very annoying. I went next door to CVS pharmacy and got 60 paper clips for $2.79. While this is still not a good deal, at least I didn't give money to the jerks at Staples.
Oh, and if you want to buy Scotch tape there, the minimum purchase is 10 rolls of tape.
Oops! You're right John- 220v;-) As for Staples- it is what it is- they are not the cheapest place to buy office supplies- for simple things you are better off going to Walmart- but Staples offers a LOT of office supplies, and some in bulk, that you can't always find elsewhere.
How does this relate to Tesla? A staple in the hand is worth two in the foot? No, that's not right...

Why so fatalistic? This is bad corporate behavior on the part of Staples and it should be fixed. I need to spend the time to send them a letter.
As for Tesla and Staples, these are both examples of bad corporate behavior and they should not be tolerated. Why corporations do things that will clearly inflame their customers I will never know.
Oh no- not fatalistic- in fact, I am one of the more positive and optimistic people I know- makes my coworkers sick;-) And you are right- bad corporate behavior is not good, even if it is having one item on their web site, but others in their brick and mortor sites. By 'it is what it is,' I mean just being wise in recognizing what some companies do well, and what they don't do well, what their practices are, and using it to your advantage. Of course, it is easy for me to be philosophic about it- if it had been me that went to Staples to find one thing, only to find a more expensive item, I would probably be fuming about it as well;-)

You would perhaps put the Staples issue as one that cannot be changed. I still think it can be changed.
