Bo, you mentioned that you do not like to make car payments. I also avoid them. However, you are making monthly (or weekly) fuel payments if you drive an ICE. The battery lease cost will typically be less and it will be predictable.
If they offer a lease for $100 per month or buy for $10,000, which would you take then?

When you are behind car payment and have been making half of tthe payment each month. Things to do to avoid repossessed. A vehicle repossession will seriously affect your credit and make it difficult for you to get any type of loan in the future, so call your personal loan company lender and talk to someone right away. Any lender is more interested in keeping you as a customer than repossessing your car. Explain to your lender why you are having trouble making your payments. If you have any idea when you'll be back on your feet, be sure to tell him/her. Then see if your lender will work with you to defer your payments, to refinance your loan to a lower interest rate and/or to extend the length of your loan to lower the monthly payment. Also, ask your lender what you owe on your loan. Then check what you could sell it for in your area by looking at your local newspaper ads or by consulting one of the many used-vehicle pricing Web sites. If you can sell it for more than you owe -- and you don't see your financial situation changing very soon -- then you might be best off to sell the car and pay off the loan. You can then buy a cheaper car or use a cheaper, alternative form of public transportation.
Leasing the battery dis attaches you from the manufacturer. As batteries become more efficient and cheaper, you might choose to buy one from someone else according to your specifications.
Hypothetically: I know i drive 60 miles per day in city traffic, i will place a request for bids on e-bay and a Chilean firm that won the bid will build a battery for me.
I was inspired by the idea of bringing people together to qualify for fleet sales of the EVs arriving next year like Nissan's Leaf. Anyone know what needs to be done?
Looks like NISSAN is doing something different -- they are doing a HUGE test of 5000, but to QUALIFIED people in certain markets (CA,OR,AZ,TN - one or two more). So individuals can buy these, just need to meet all criteria. Very much like BMW Mini. Google this for exact details.
I ran across another example of a retrofit where the gas engine was retained to drive the rear wheels, and an electric motor was added to drive the front wheels. This allows pure EV driving, pure gas driving, or a mix giving all wheel drive. The car is a Fiero. The engineering is impressive! You guys need to figure out how to control the gain on your telephone interviews. Your voice is so much louder than the person you are interviewing. So either the person interviewed is barely audible or your voices are overly LOUD.
Guest - play around audio settings on your listening device. I admit, our sound levels are not always right on, but this episode was pretty darn perfect. Did you mean to perhaps comment on a different episode?
