In regards to the end of the show and the voice mail left by Rick from Houston.  I was unable to find any info on estimated coal reserves in the Powder River Basin having been reduced. From over 100 billion short tons to just 9 billion. Leaving the USA with only 20 years or so of coal reserves, rather than 200+ years worth.

Any chance he or someone else has a link that backs Rick's claim?

I would trust GM and Nissan the same for quality.  GM makes better cars than most people think.  Also GM has a lot of pressure to make Volt correctly.  The volt in pictures looks as almost the same quality as a Caddy.

I think I like the Moose, Green Vehicles, Zenn, Sunmotors, BYD, Be Green, Coda, or ones I am missing better than the Leaf or Volt due to cost.

Honda and Hydrogen.  There is more energy in hydrogen per weight than any battery.  However, how much will it cost.

As for 50 mpg being a gas guzzler, at 10,000 miles a year, and $5 a gallon gas, that is only $1000 per year.  The cost of insurance is higher.

I almost bought Prius, glad I delayed.

Anon Ymous,

Rick from the oil capitol of the world at your service.Smile You asked and I humbly deliver. Here is the US Geological Survey report. http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/2008/1202/pdf/ofr2008-1202.pdf It’s enough to make you watch that 1970's dystopian thriller, "Soylent Green" Frown rather than read this rather very pessimistic report on the Powder River basin. In all fairness though I should have specified the most prolific field, the Gillette field, rather than the other fields in the Powder River Basin like the Canyon and the Anderson fields, though the Gillette field accounts for 37 percent of US coal production. While only 7 out of the Gillette fields 11 coal fields were assessed at 10.1 billion short tons of coal, deeply discounted from the no restrictions barred assessment of 201 billion short tons of coal, they demonstrate quite clearly that our coal reserves are not as abundant as we had originally thought.

Now while what is left that is not economically extractable unless coal prices were much higher it is important to note that US industrial expansion was based on the abundance of cheap energy. Raising the cost of coal will not make more of it economically extractable because customers could be priced out of the market for coal produced electricity. You have only to look at the example of what high gasoline prices did to people who drove large lumbering SUVs. If forced them to drive less, use mass transit, buy a hybrid, convert to electric, ride a bike or walk. Check out the Abstract section starting on page 1 in the document (page 9 in adobe pagination) and you will see how they came to that conclusion. You could probably extract more if the interstates, rail lines, cities and alluvial valley floors would be considered expendable.

Hello guys, from Paul, in the heat-stroke capitol of the world, Austin, Texas! (I wish I was kidding- 60+ days over 100 degrees and counting- it will end up the hottest summer ever here in Austin- at least in the last couple of centuries)

Here is the link to Jay Leno’s Garage, to the videos of the EV’s he has tested- pretty cool!  They range from the 1909 Baker Electric to the Aptera.

Hey- the Vectix web site is back up- any news as a Vectrix owner Bo?

Enjoyed the interview with Mr. Youseff and the Triac- hope they are able to make it, and at the price range they have quoted.

And very interesting to hear from your neighbor, Joyce- so, the legal secretary is married to the boss- kinda like Della Street marrying Perry Mason;-) (I’m sure they have never heard THAT before!)

Great show! Was interesting to hear what Ehab had to say. After hearing this I think I'm leaning towards the Volt for my next means of car transportation

Hey im not sure you could call Huston the oil capitol of the world... We got some good oil biz up here i Fort Mc Murry, Alberta aswell... But nothing compared to the Sudi's, .... they have a crap pile of oil. Regardless I think we sould implement a smart electric Grid see if we can get 50% of our power from wind/solar here in Alberta. Our nabors get something like 80% of there electic from Hidro. And its not perfect but its better then coal.

Does anyone have a list of the stats for compare like "Leaf Batter Amp Hours" VS "Volt Battery Amp Hours?" or could they derect me to a site so i can look them over :)
