Well my first show is over and I am happy about one thing. I survived without having a coronary. It actually wasn’t that bad. Jerry Asher was a wonderful guest. His depth of experience was really fun to tap into. [57:00]
We started at the germ of Jerry’s experience. He was woken up to the possibilities of electric vehicles when he found a book in a bargain bin called Energy Future, by Daniel Yergin. Doing a military tour in North Carolina he helped start the Triangle area chapter of the Electric Automobile Association. He enrolled in the sergeant majors academy. Jerry also got a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. While in North Carolina Jerry became involved with schools participating in the EV competitions made famous in the book Electric Dreams and actually got to know the characters in the book. He moved to do work for the Judge Advocate Generals (JAG) office in Washington, DC, where he became involved with the local EAA chapter the Electric Vehicle Association of Washington DC (EVA/DC). He was mobilized after 911. Jerry Asher has been involved in various activities. He was instrumental in organizing EVer Conferences. He has helped start many of the EAA chapters around the country, but he is probably most famous for being the first person to have driven a hybrid electric vehicle to every state capitol in the contiguous United States. Jerry continues to organize EV tour events of which the Fun Run in the Sun tour is what he is focused on next. The Fun Run in the Sun is a tour of an electric three wheel vehicle that will travel across the country towing a trailer made of solar panels to power the vehicle. Google Fun Run in the Sun. He also plugged the beginning of the Nissan Leaf tour, which is set to begin November 13, 2009. Google Nissan Leaf Tour.
