LOL!  I sure was confused- I kept refreshing the screen looking for Nikki's beatific visage, only to keep seeing Bo's craggy countenance, until Chelsea clued me in via chat as to what happened.  Good show though, guy and gals.  I look forward to your respective shows for old predictions reviewed and new predictions revealed over the next week or so!

Hope y'all have a very merry Christmas, and may you each find an EV under your trees, a fast-charge station in your stockings and solar panels left on your roof!  Let's hope, though, that no one gets any coal in their stockings;-)

Hey Guys and Gals!

I'm really sorry I couldn't be with you in high-audio fidelity, but Thanks to Bo for stepping in at the last minute to produce this show.

It's quite strange to be on the telephone doing a show this way. And thanks too to Alexandra for taking some time out of her very busy schedule to join us.

For the record, my Internet died yesterday at 16:30. I got home just now at 14:00 the next day and it's just come back on line.

Twenty-Two hours without Internet. Wow. What a pain it's been!

A couple of points on the Chevy Volt song (see lyrics below).  Firstly, they say "idear" rather than "idea", so the authors are probably from Boston.

Secondly, the Chevy Volt is a "Greener Car that Powers itself".  Now that is better than I expected.  I thought I would have to plug it in.  Now that I know it powers itself, I think it is well worth the US$40,000 they are asking for it.

THE FUTURE SHOULD BE A BIG ADVENTURE
INSTEAD OUR WORLD IS UNDER PRESSURE
EVERYONE’S TALKING ‘BOUT MAKING A CHANGE
TO COST OF FUEL AND MILEAGE RANGE
TOGETHER WE FACE THIS NEW FRONTIER
WITH MYSTERIES TO SOLVE, OH DEAR
WHAT WILL GET US OUT OF FIRST GEAR?

A BETTER EV
NOT THAT’S A BIG IDEA(R)

E FOR ELECTRICIT, V FOR CHEVY VOLT AND ME
ELECTRIC CAR WITH A BATTERY IN CHARGE
E FOR ELECTRICITY, V FOR CHEVY VOLT YOU SEE
IT’S AS SIMPLE LIKE A DIMPLE, PLUG IT IN AND SEE

FROM THE FOLKS AT CHEVROLET
CHEVY VOLT IS ON ITS WAY
IT CAN MAKE A CLEANER WORLD
A GREENER CAR THAT POWERS ITSELF
YOU GET UP TO 40 MILES EMISSION-FREE CLEAN ENERGY
AFTER THAT BIO FUEL OR GAS WILL POWER YOUR JOURNEY

E FOR ELECTRICITY, V FOR CHEVY VOLT AND ME
EASIER THAT ONE TWO THREE, JUST PLUG IT IN AND SEE
E FOR ELECTRICITY, V FOR VEHICULARITY
THAT’S NOT A WORD, BUT IT’S OKAY CUZ VOLT COULD CHANGE THE WORLD SOMEDAY

VOLT RUNS CLEANER THAN GASOLINE
LESS POLLUTION FOR US TO BREATHE
CHARGE YOUR CAR RIGHT IN YOUR HOME – COSTS NEXT TO NOTHING
IT’S CHEAPER THAN YOUR PHONE
IT’S LEANER, IT’S GREENER, IT’S CHEAPER, IT’S CLEANER – WHETHER YOU’RE IN ALBUQUERQUE, QUEENS, OR PASADENA

E FOR ELECTRICITY, V FOR CHEVY VOLT AND ME
ELECTRIC CAR, WITH A BATTERY IN CHARGE
E FOR ELECTRICITY, V FOR CHEVY VOLT YOU SEE
EASY AS YOUR A B C JUST PLUG IT IN AND SEE

OK so the range on the RAV4 EV seems to be better than the Mitsubishi iMiEV.  But don't assume it is the NiMH battery technology that is responsible.

The RAV4 EV battery pack is 28 KWH.

The iMiEV battery pack is 16 KWH.

So the RAV4 EV battery pack is 1.75 time larger.  I should certainly hope that it has a longer range.

Hi Nikki,

Maybe it's worth getting a pay as you go mobile broadband USB stick as a backup? There are some services offering 2Mbps upload speed - should be enough for live video.

Certainly cheaper than transatlantic phone calls.
