This week we try to get you to think of energy in a different way. Back in the very, very old days man discovered fire. As man progressed he discovered water and wind. Water for water mills and wind for sails and later windmills. These are the two fundamental differences of man manipulated energy. The track of the wood burners leads to coal and then to oil, while the track of the water mill and sailors leads to wind turbines, hydroelectric dams, geothermal, wave power, tide power, water current power, solar energy and much, much more. Explore with me the wonderful new world of energy at the cusp of being born.

Obi-Wan: The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.

Joe, glad you talked about low temp binary geothermal, I think it is one of the more exciting renewable energy extraction methods - Raser technology works in this area and has constructed a 10 MW plant in as little as six months, it holds great promise as a base power supplier until we work out the problems with nuclear.

1 kilometer = 3,281 feet

3 Kilometers = 9,843

6 Kilometers = 19,686

Deepest hole The Kola Superdeep Borehole a scientific drilling project of the former USSR and is 40,230 ft.

2575 active natural gas wells over 15,000 feet deep by 2003. Approximate cost to drill a 17,000 foot well was 5 million dollars.

Given that a coal fired power plant can cost nearly a billion dollars with all the pollution controls, it might be time to look at geothermal with fresh eyes.

Nuclear is too dangerous, to expensive and not needed since we have all of the energy we need safely available all around us.
