Speaking of sky-ways......you guys should check out SkyTran / UniModal. It's a personal rapid transit system that is currently under development and testing. It would _potentially_ reduce a lot of the need for cars!http://www.unimodal.com/I've been following the progress of their technology for years and it's exciting to see their progress.Keep up the great shows guys!JoePhoenix, AZ
Okay- just saw your Afternoon Delight video (it was available after the show's video within the same screen)- almost funny, but after seeing you crawl on the grass- well, that was just scary!
I think a car with REAL-WORLD mileage of 250-300 miles will be more than sufficient, especially 10 years from now- presumably, the battery technology will allow for fast charging, for those rare longer trips, and for 90% of drivers, the savings in cost, weight and space will be more than worth it. But I also think that cars with 'extended' battery range will be for sale as well, for those who need it, or at least feel like they need it.
I don't want to disappoint you, Bo, but the 500 mile range statement of Martin E was just him blowing smoke. Batteries are NOT like DRAM and disk drives. Progress is relatively slow & incremental. There could be a black swan discovery but I doubt it.
And even if you could do, you probably wouldn't. Most of that time the extra battery power would never be used and thus raise the price of the car for little reason. And you could not charge a 500 mile battery from the electrical supply of a typical house within a reasonable time frame.
I mean you could build a 500 mile EV right now, but you don't. It would be too heavy, too expensive, and take too long to charge.
There are plenty of other ways to deal with the range issue: PHEVs, genset trailers for pure-EVs, battery swap stations, fast charging (which I am also skeptical of), etc.
So don't believe the 500 mile statement . . . you are just setting yourself up for yet another EV disappointment.
