For Bo's sake, he had better not be driving his Vectrix when my Leaf comes in. I will run his ass over to get my electric car.

All joking aside I commute 50 miles each day. Most people commute about the same. I have a Chevelle, a pickup, a minivan, a Harley and 2 or 3 bicycles. I can "dang" sure find a way to get somewhere if I need to exceed 100 miles. I want an EV REALLY BAD!

X-Prize exec, Steve W - VERY good interview with him and some good insights to the Automotive X-Prize.

Oliver Cutner of Edison II, winner of the X-Prize Mainstream with the Very Light Car- what I could hear of it- very good interview as well- seems like a serious sort who is serious about pursuing better alternatives to our present crop of autos.

$44,900 for the Coda- now the Volt pricing doesn't look so bad;-)

Ouch!  Bo took it on the chin from the feedback, didn't he!  But while I agreed with Ryan last week, I do understand your stance, and understand that in the long run, you do want EVs- you just want an EV that will not be a compromise to what you are used to. Hey!  I like the Volt as well!  But it shows that Ryan is willing to make some compromise to be an early adopter- good for him! And it won't be that much of a compromise, I don't think.

The last I remember seeing, is that the Volt range was 40 miles on electric, and an additional 300 miles on the gas- I believe the gas tank is not very large.

And don't even THINK about doing a Texas joke, Bo- you do know our state motto- Don't Mess with Texas >=(    (Okay, that is really the motto from our "Don't litter" commercials, and the real motto of Texas is 'Friendship.'  But "Don't mess with Texas!" just sounds way more cool!)

1) The Wave II is a four-wheeled vehicle, not three. (It's still ugly and (I think) not salable. Also, the company has a pretty poor public track record to date, having had irate customers and the very public failure of their PT Cruiser as NYC taxi trial. Eventually, changing the company name, which by my count they have done about 7 times, does little to improve chances of success.)

2) X-Prize guy mis-spoke - Tata had their Indica EV in the competition, not an electrified Nano.

3) I wish you had asked X-Prize guy about the Electric-RaceAbout team. I believe they only lost to Li=Ion by a fraction of a second and really had the most presentable and technologically innovative drivetrain that came close to winning. It also looked great, had 4 wheels (and four-wheel-drive) using direct-drive motors that are also to be found in a the EVA concept car by Valmet (Fisker and Think constructor).

4) While the Volt is an excellent replacement for most of the gas-powered autos on the road today, and not such a bad deal after tax rebate if you consider the standard equipment levels and Onstar service included, there is still a significant size market for the Leaf. If I lived in a colder climate I'd wait to see about its Winter performance before I committed. In California, after rebates and such, the Leaf is just over 20,000 and would be many peoples 1st vehicle with their gasser being their 2nd.

Still, knowing how much Bo enjoys and uses the Vectrix with its extremely short range, it's ironic he wouldn't consider a  relatively inexpensive Leaf that will be available in a few months and instead, opt to spend 80,000+ on a Fisker that might not show up untilr, I don't even know when it's due now...I can't keep track.

Personally, if I were him (stinking rich)(ok, I kid. A little.), I'd pull the trigger on a Roadster 2.5.
