AARRGGHH!  Give it a rest guys!  'Voltgate' is ridiculous!  So it is a BEV for 40 miles, an EREV for 90% of the rest of the time, and, on some rare occassions, it may be a form of PHEV for the sake of efficiency- deal with it!

And the MPG figures?  I don't think it is misleading, as long as folks know what the 'all-gas' mode is, which will be in the mid-30s- but it is also good to understand what this car will AVERAGE for an average commute- otherwise how do you compare it with other cars?  There was another article that made the Volt look bad on emissions compared to other hybrids- but that was not fair, because the Volt will not be driven as a purely gas car very often.  This is a different, unique car- and therein lies the rub- how do you compare it to other cars?  No matter what criteria, it is going to upset some group, it seems.

And all this is missing the point.  An average of 40 miles, all electric- which will mean, on average, about 70-80% less gasoline burned.

And on that note- I am eagerly looking forward to my Volt test-drive this Saturday- it will be worth the drive down to San Antonio.

And to Paternally Perplexed- we encouraged reading and talking for both our daughters when they were little- they became very verbal as they grew older as a result----then they became teenagers!  My advice?  Encourage the silence of EVs in your daughter, before it is too late!

These are guys who have been around for years.  They have a very unique idea which could be industry-changing.  The problem is, their idea is too "out there" and they have no money.  I met with them 2 years ago -- good guys, but again, radical idea and no financial support.

(If you already did not know, they are proposing an inflatable car using a type of fuel-cell as power)
