With the gradual but inevitable introduction of full-speed EVs in the marketplace, are NEVs (neighborhood electric vehicles - 25mph) doomed? Join Bo, Ryan, and Jason as we explore this topic and discuss some more details of NEVs such as historical sales, current NEV vendors in the US market, state laws, practicality, safety, quality, and others.

Hi guys! Good show as usual. I must agree with y'all's assessment of NEV's- they are, and will remain, a niche vehicle that will appeal to those who want or need an NEV because of price or location- as you mentioned: universities, military bases, downtown areas, retirement or golfing communities, and last but not least, teenage drivers;-) Interesting bit about James Worden- there is a wikepedia article at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solectria_SunriseHowevever, Mr Worden's last parts were sold to a group that is trying to resurrect the car, updated, as a kit. Their site, which also has a bit more background on the original solectria, is at:http://www.sunrise-ev.com/

I was not familiar with the history of the Solectria Sunrise. This is another effort gutted by CARB removing the EV mandate at the last minute. Too bad MR Worden's efforts did not pay off. He is now in the Solar Power business and still maintains the Solectria company name. I have a Solectria inverter in my basement producing electric power from my solar panels.
James Worden might make an interesting guest for the show.
FYI, the word is "registerable"

There will not be a death of the NEV as long as there are no full speed conventional EVs on the road for less than $25,000. They don't exist yet. They are dreams. They are probably mostly lies.
Medium speed is like 4 states. I would buy a medium speed Zenn tomorrow. The medium speed is a hugh step if allowed on 40 mph roads. As it would cover almost 100% on the non-freeway roads in Los Angeles. I would bet with proper advertising you could sell 10,000 MSVs yearly in Los Angeles. NEVs could go on about 40% of the roads in Los Angeles that you would want to drive on. It would also be hard to find which road to drive on if you were not familar with your area.
Personally I wish all city cars were limited to MSVs.
Miles, BG Auto, Zenn, Tiger. Below is a guide on some NEVs open source GPL so please update if you like.
