Solaroad Tech:  http://www.solaroadtechnologies.com/

Some interesting ideas, though nothing too viable for the near future, I think.  But you never know- for every 20 companies that think outside the box a bit, you may actually get one that is useful- so go Innovation!

You forgot to mention the most important part of the Sola Road people.

The people that will bring us amazing technology for the future, have not seemed to master the HTML technology to put pictures on their website.  There are absolutely zero pictures or images on their website.

So perhaps after they master HTML, they can get to work on these great technologies.

Seriously, are we even sure this is a real company.  Haven't we been down this path before?

Sigh,

Let's see what devices combine data and power.  Hmmm... What could it be.

Oh yeah, for the last 100 years this has been done with the telephone.  It combines 48 volts DC to power the phone with your audio signal so you can hear. And they do this on two wires.  Pretty advanced stuff.

As for the USB, it has 4 wires.  2 are for power and 2 are for serial data.  The larger 6wire FireWire connections provide power too.

By the way, I think we need to start up a collection to buy poor Ryan a new battery for his phone.  It runs out of power by midday, that sucks.

My $30 Nokia phone has a battery that lasts all week dude.

I don't know if I can make it through the whole podcast here.  I keep getting interrupted by the urgent need to post a correction.

OK, currently, there are no tax incentitives for the Prius.  The government gave a nice tax break  ($3,350 I believe) for the first 60,000 Prius.  That program is over for Toyota.  It was intended to help the car companies push the new technology out into the marketplace.  But once the car was established (i.e. 60,000 cars) then the government incentives were no longer needed.

So now, the goverment is trying to encourage new PLUG-IN hybrids.  Not the old hybrids which they already supported.  They are just trying to establish a technical limit for what is and is not a plug-in hybrid.  They are basically saying that if you have a battery of less than 5KWH then you are not a plug-in hybrid.

That sounds reasonable.  The Aptera (10 KWH) should be supported by the ruling, but Toyota's wimpy 2KWH battery would not be.  The government is staying, don't be callin' yourself a plug-in hybrid unless you sport at least a 5KWH battery.
