Okay- y'all keep confusing the different Capacitor applications for autos. Here are the three I see.
First, and the one most likely to see usage soon, is the capacitor as a stand alone device from the battery, used mainly to capture energy from regenerative braking, and to assist with heavy acceleration.
Second, there are capcitors being integrated within the battery, primarily lead acid at this point, developed by CSIRO and Axion Power for example. Barring the success of the third type, I see this as having the largest potential to provide affordable EV batteries with an okay range and good longevity- but so far, no car makers are biting, which I do not understand.
Third- using the capacitor to replace the battery altogether- this is the great hope of EESTOR of course. This has the longest shot of being successful, but also has the greatest upside if they are successfully brought to market.

Bringing back the EV1 would be very difficult for the reasons Bo mentioned, however now would be a much better time for a [revised] EV1 than the 90's ever were. Gas will go up again and we're more aware of the environment than ever before. While GM were ahead of their time with the EV1, they are behind the times with the electric-only range of the volt. It's half that of the lead-powered EV1. I know, cost etc, but why not trial LiFePO4 batteries? I think one of the larger reasons (conspiracy alert) behind the lack of range/lack of all-electric cars from GM is because it would help to destroy their core business - ICE cars and all that must be fixed on them.
It's plausable to consider digging up the blueprints of the EV1, revise the battery pack, choose some new parts suppliers and get it under contstruction again. It's only a two-seater but I'd buy one. Well, as long as they found a way to put the steering wheel on the correct side of course.
