In answer to your question Bo, Volkswagon is unveiling a Diesel-powered sports car at the Detroit Auto Show called the Bluesport: http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2009/01/11/357692.html
There is a short video on it part way down the page- you just have to endure the loud Auto Channel intro;-)
Mr Fisker believes he will have no competition for the next two or three years (14:30). but... their car won't be available to the general public until mid 2010- a year and a half from now, if you have an order in already- or later if your dont.. two years from now?... Which makes me think: you can claim a corner on the market, but you don't make money until you serve it. He noted the competitive advantage of being a plug in with range extending gas power, something Tesla and Aptura don't have. He is right, and that is great... But the Toyota Prius plug in and the Volt are expected to be released 2011 ish... which both do the same thing as the Karma, and are expected to cost much less. Sorry Mr Fisker, I am not as enthusiastic on your business plan. But! good call on making the "special edition" model- getting rid of the original manufacturing stock...? :) mikeg.
Mister Fisker is being sued by Tesla, and the implications disturb me. If I understand correctly, Tesla claims that Mister Fisker was part of the Tesla development team, and during that period sabotaged the program by deliberately producing an inferior product, delaying the Tesla schedule by 6 months. I believe there were other allegations as well, and although he should have a presumption of innocence, I'd be wary of placing a deposit with Fisker until this issue is resolved. If the charges are true, I would hope Tesla gets a significant judgement against him: enough to rocover their production losses. If the charges are false, Mr. Fisker deserves full exoneration and restitution.
It should not be too difficult to determine the truth here, and I hope the truth is determined quickly, since the EV industry cannot afford to have such a dark cloud hanging over it.
I believe this lawsuit was settled many months ago, in Fisker's favor- they were not found guilty of any wrong-doing
