Level headed people would understand that if the Chevy Volt doesn't make it, what ever that means, it will not be a failure of that vehicle, because surveys show that most people would be willing to buy the vehicle if it were priced similar to a similar gasoline powered car. Pricing makes the difference. However, there are economic models that GM can use to study the affect of price on the vehicle's demand. So GM executives know how many vehicles will sell at particular price points. They may have a boost in the first year because of first adopters and buzz, but after that GM should see pretty standard sales based on the sales of similar vehicles. The Volt will not be a vehicle that will be sold in the hundreds of thousands because it will not be priced at the industry sweet spot for car pricing which is somewhere around $20,000 to $25,000. GM probably has a price demand graph for every vehicle they make somewhere at HQ. The price would be on the vertical line and the number of sales on the horizontal line. The demand price line will have a slope on the run going down from left to right. The higher the price the lower numbers sold. They can get the graphs of similar vehicles and get a good idea of where the Volt will sell.

GM has a ripcord for the Volt. If it doesn't do well, what ever that means, GM has an easy out. The Chevy Cruise is a vehicle that looks like Volt and is built on the same platform. Because GM has an easy out is one reason that a lot of EV enthusiasts believe that GM is not serious about doing the Volt.

The mentioned App is nice for mobile applications... for those who did not already known.

The U.S. DOE ( Department of Energy ) already has a rather nice place to go that gives alternative fueling station points, including Electric charging... see that at the web address bellow... you can even fill out a form to have a new one added if you operate one not already on that list... Also some smart phones can also view / use this page as well... I particularly like the map route option.

http://www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/locator/stations/

Another Alternative site... even if I like the DOE site a bit more is,

http://www.evchargermaps.com/

I think I recall someone mentioning charging in the New England Area, Massachusetts, Connecticut , RI , etc... The NEEAA ( New England Electric Auto Association ) hoasts a basic web site listing some opportunity charging points... which can be seen at the link bellow,

http://neeaa.org/charging.htm

Here is a good youtube video showing the highlights of the Nissan Leaf, including the front charging ports- one for a 110 or 220 volt connection, and another for a fast-charging, 3-phase, 440 volt connection- at least they are planning ahead from the get-go:
