For anyone interested, here is the paper that I was referring to with Japan's NASA doing the testing.
"Cycle-life testing of large-capacity lithium-ion cells in simulated satellite operation"
Don't be confused by "simulated", they actually tested the batteries for 6 years. Here is the key data
20% DOD >30,000 cycles40% DOD 25,000 cycles80% DOD 1800 cycles
DOD = depth of discharge
if you want 10 years from your battery with daily use, it is 3650 cycles.
I am sure different Li-Ion battery chemistries have different life cycles (better or worse). But most company data is filtered through marketing people and effected by business interests. So I don't know if I believe the data. Also, it is expensive and time consuming to run these tests and many organizations cannot or have not done it. This data comes from six years of testing and looks believable.
One side note. The iMiEV and the Volt both have 16 KWH battery packs. The iMiEV claims 100 mile range and the Volt claims 40 mile range. Firstly, I doubt the 100 mile range of the iMiEV, but let's say it really has an 80 mile range. Secondly, if you did use the iMiEV daily for 80 miles, I am concerned about the battery life.

Just a comment on plugless power. This is not new. Better Place have been showing this idea/process in their promotional videos. The videos show an electric car driving into a car parking space and the car automatically connects to the charger through a contactless system.
Great show, by the way - in video - great. Is good for us Aussies who can't see it in real time(4:30am).

OK so their 100 KW box is basically 134 HP. So that enormous box could power your car.
And another thing, it takes 2 hours to reach temperature. So plan your trips well in advance.
