Well- congratulations on y'all's first podcast togehter, Shannon and Sebastian- the only complaint I have is that 'Shannon and Sebastian' are harder to type than 'Bo and Ryan.'

A suggested title for this podcast:  A Tale of Two City Cars  (with appologies to Dickens;-)

The Think - I just don't see battery leasing as a viable option especially here in the US- too many ifs, especially in terms of what do you do if the car is sold?  I think Nissan got it right- either sell or lease the car and batteries together.  Also, unfortunately for Think, who I like, it will be hard to compete with Nissan, as you pointed out, in terms of name recognition and price.

The Leaf - the cost says it all- it has sent, and will continue to send, shockwaves thoughout the Auto Industry.  Nissan, at least so far, seems to have become the poster child for bringing an EV to the market.  They really have gone all-in on this, in terms of their battery development and in the numbers they are shooting for to bring the costs down via mass production.  I think the next few months are going to be huge for the Leaf and the Volt.

I will not count the Think out altogether however- the market has room, at least for now, and will have more buyers than there will be EVs available- if Think can get a quality product out there and garner a positive reaction, they will have a short time to get their costs down- and will have to, to remail competitive.  Economies of scale- this is why it is so hard for a new company to break into any established industry, especially one that has a huge overhead like the automotive industry.

It's funny, all the press given to the charging infrastructure, as well as attention to it by EV makers.  Having a thousand charge points around your city, while nice, is not all that necessary.  It is a perception thing, I think- potential buyers will feel more comfortable knowing there are charge points available, even if they never use one in the city.  It is between the cities that they will be needed.  Still- I guess it is one way to gauge a government's commitment to EVs in their area.

The comparison between Leaf and Think is interesting.  I know the numbers are mushy but I wonder why the Think will not have a better range?
