Hey don't forget to add the file attributes (title, artist, album, etc.) consistently to your files! Us non-ipod users download the file and it ends up all over the place on my player (like the dreaded "Unknown" folder) when the attributes are not added. Thanks.
(Re: #20 had the attributes, #21 did not)
P.S. Luv the show - Listened to every one

Thanks Fred. As far as I know, I am saving all the shows the exact same way with the same ID4 tags. I will double check... I could have missed something the last episode.
Thanks for listening! |

I do not see the MP3 attibutes on any of the files that I download from this site. I do see them on MP3 files (podcasts) that I download from other sites.
I won't let this deter me from listening to your show though!

I don't use iTunes. I download the file directly. I rename the file (song title) on download and then use Windows Media Player to change the album name from 'Unknown' to 'EV Cast' so it shows up in my SanDisk Sansa in the right folder. The changes only take me a second now that I have the routine down.
I've never missed a show either! |

I also download directly and then change the album name. But when I download MP3 files directly from other sites, the album, artist, etc. information is already included. I think it gets embedded inside the MP3 file. That is what seems to be missing for the EVCAST files. |

#57 vs #58
I just downloaded Friday (57) and Monday (58) and noticed differences.
Friday's #57 had the Artist (Bo Bennett and Ryan Lavesque), Album (EVcast.com) and a Title (EVcast #57: More Voltage.
These same attributes were missing from today's episode #58. |

The MP3 file for today's show seems to have all of the ID3 tags! Way to go!

Hi Steve, not sure what is going on... since episode #30 or so, we have been saving the files the exact same way each time. I have them downloaded in iTunes and I see all the tags for each episode. Any one else missing tags? |
 | Subject: RE: MP3 File Attributes Listener Feedback posted by FredHinds on Friday, August 22nd 2008 @ 5:51 PM
Did Ryan do it today? I noticed the tags were there when Ryan was solo and stopped when Bo returned?
I could be on to something or I could be just putting little windmills on cars!
Steve and I are not using iTunes. I download it directly and sync using Windows Media Player on my Sansa. |

EVCast #62 file 00000075.mp3 has all of the ID3 tags in it. EVCast #63 file 00000076.mp3 does not have any ID3 tags in it.
If any of you (Ryan, Bo, Jason) have a Windows system, perhaps you could try downloading these MP3 files and then check them using Windows Exporer or Windows Media Player to see what you see.

Fred / Steve,
I think we may have cracked the ID3 tag code! If you would, please check yesterday's show, as well as today's show. I'm suspecting you'll find complete ID3 tags for today's show, but not yesterday. If I'm correct, we've found the solution! |

There were no ID3 tags in either EVcast #66 (00000079.mp3) or EVcast #67 (00000080.mp3).

For what it is worth, I find that 00000080.mp3 has no ID3 tags in Windows Media Player, but looks fine in iTunes. |

I think this MAY be a bug in Windows Media Player. After doing some research, appears that several sources report this:

Not sure what the deal is... |

For what it is worth, I first check with Windows Explorer before running Windows Media Player, and Windows Explorer does not see the ID3 tags. Note that I always see the ID3 tags on MP3 file downloads from every other web site that I have tried. (I regularly download podcasts from sites in addition to EVcast, and those are always fine.)

It is definitely not Windows Media Player fault. I too check the file with Windows Explorer before opening the file in Media Player. There were no ID3 tags.
I suspect you are creating these files using Macintosh tools that do not put the tags into the file the way that most MP3 players read them. Clearly there are tags, itunes sees them, but they cannot be seen in the Windows world (I might add, 95% of the computing world).
Furthermore, I have tried the file in Real Player, and it does not see any ID3 tags. The wonderful EVCasts are quite sad without the labels. |

iTunes uses ID3 2.4 by default. I wonder if I went down a version or two, if that would make it more compatible. I will try that on the next one. |

I used ID3 version 2.3 this time. Looks like that is the solution! |
