Subject: #45 CalCars - Felix Kramer and EV conversions Listener Feedback posted by FredHinds on Thursday, July 31st 2008 @ 3:58 PM
I think you guys skipped over one of Felix's major points. The CalCar's 2nd large goal was to convert a portion of the existing car fleet.
I do get discouraged when you report the low production numbers for the initial years of EV's and similar cars like the Volt. We are really looking at 4-6 years before these next generation cars to the dealerships in any real volume. We REALLY need to convert the existing fleet over to EV en masse!
One thing I notice about current EV conversions is that they all pick different "Donor Vehicles". We could get conversions going if they picked very popular models like the Camry and Accord and mass produce the conversion kits. I would JUMP at the opportunity to buy an older model Camry or Accord for $1,500 with a blown engine and get it converted for $3,500 to $4,000. I think CalCar's 2nd major goal is a great idea but they need to focus on a few major car models and get inexpensive EV kits to market. The only EV kit for a specific model I have seen is the one for the old VW Beetles. |
