The topic of the 10/17/2008 episode of Autoline Detroit was Chrysler's EVs. It featured interviews with Bruce Coventry, CEO, Global Electric Motorcars and Lou Rhodes, President, ENVI. I found it very interesting. Part of the discussion was on the use of Sodium batteries as a method of providing affordable long range pure EVs. This is the first time that I had heard of that.

Here is an article on the Chrysler - GE partnership to develop EVs. It also mentions sodium-metal halide batteries (that GE apparently developed for its hybrid railroad locomotives) "which GE contends is preferable for producing long-term, steady power, like at cruising speed".
