Hey all. I'm relatively new to the EVCast. I'm currently listening to episode 78, dutifully working my way from 1 to current. I've been drooling over the Aptera and was wondering if anyone out there in EVCastland owned one and could answer this question...or series of questions.

With normal vehicles, like my 2007 Ford Escape 4cyl, when I go faster, ie upwards of 70mph my fuel economy drops dramatically. Does the Aptera with a CD of .15 suffer from these problems? Does gliding through the air at 70 mph drain the battery just like driving any other vehicle at those speeds?

I understand the principles of drag and that the car has to work harder to overcome both road friction and friction from air resistance. I live in Texas though and if you don't drive 60-75 mph you'll either grow old on your daily commute or get squashed by the impatient giant SUV ten inches behind you.

I would love to go pure EV and not bother with PHEVs etc since there is so much less maintenance with a BEV. My main concern though is driving from my house to school, then to Dallas and home again is about 100 mi and we don't have the infrastructure needed to charge at each location along the trip, and each leg of the trip is highway miles, with a minimum speed of 55mph on the trip and a max mph of 70-80mph depending on traffic.

Any ideas? I will probably start seriously looking after I graduate in May 2010.

Might have to move to Cali just to get an Aptera, those things are sexy.
