I'm a seventh grade science teacher in Mississippi. I have been into EVs as long as I've been a teacher, but I have never been able to afford one, nor have the money/capabilities to convert. Even though I'd love to buy a LEAF, it's well out of my reach. So I've decided on a bike-type purchase to commute back and forth to work on. I've been trying to do some research (and I still won't be able to buy for at least a year anyway), but I'd like some feedback from the community.

Assuming Vectrix will be Li-Ion this time next year, and the pricepoint won't change, and that neither of the other two companies make no major changes in tech or price, which of the three would you recommend?

I can charge at work on a 110, so range is not really an issue.

Vectrix

Zero DS

Brammo Enertia

I own a Vectrix VX-1, And use it daily.

Advanatages of the Vectrix: Having an open frame you don't have to climb on and off the bike, this will seem more important then it sounds once you are doing it five-six times a day. The under set cagro space is fantastic, fits a gallon of milk and a bag of grocceres no problem, or a full face helmet. And the passager seating it comfotable. Very fun to drive.

Disavantages: The Vectrix and the Zero both lack enough range, to be comfortable commuters, The real range of these bikes at 55 mph is about 20 miles, at 35 mph you will get about 30 miles, So if this is all you need the Vectrix is the better pick between the two. But you will have real range issues, which will detract from your driving enjoyment. And if you don't get the plug at work one day, your in real trouble.

I will be buying the Brammo Empulse once it is released: 100% because it has the range and the highway speeds needed to be a great commuter. The down side to the Brammo is that it has zero cargo space and will be a bare to climb on and off. But at least It will fit a large amount of motocycle add on parts, so that should help.

If I though that Vectrix would came out with a Vectrix with twice the current modles range I would stay with the Vectrix. Scooter class bikes are just more practical commuters, And a Vectrix with a 60 mile range at real road speeds would do everything I need it to. And do it well.

Brammo is the only company with products that will have enough range to be useful daily commuters right now.
